    The ruins of Chan Chan are located in the Moche Valley, midway between Huanchaco and Trujillo, in the department of La Libertad and covers an area of about 20 square kilometers.

    It is an archaeological zone made up by 9 citadels or small walled cities belonging to the Chimú culture. It is considered as the greatest clay city of the world.

    It is estimated that in Chan Chan, which means “Sol Sol” (Sun Sun) because many theories indicate that the city bore a great sun exposure, lived 20 to 30 thousand inhabitants and several types of architecture can be seen.

    It is recommended to visit and go all over this place with an accredited tourist guide because it will allow tourists to discover the remains of an ancient Peruvian culture, as well as to be amazed with the quality of the architecture of the Chimu.
