840,000 citizens will travel across Peru during year-end holidays, thus generating an economic impact worth US$77.3 million, the country’s Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) projected.

Main reasons for traveling will be vacations (85%), visiting relatives and friends (13%), and others (2%).

Domestic visitors will mainly travel by interprovincial bus (70%) and particular car (25%).

Minister Eduardo Ferreyros noted said information was obtained after conducting interviews with representatives of main land transport companies, airlines, travel agencies and hostels.

The Ministry found out Lima citizens’ favorite destinations are located in their region.

“In the case of tourists from Lima, they will mainly visit southern beaches, as well as Lunahuana, Cerro Azul, Huaral, Huacho and Canta, among others,” he said.

Tourism outside Lima

Trujillo, Chiclayo and Piura regions will be the most popular destinations in the country’s northern area.

On the other hand, Ica, Arequipa and Cusco will stand out among southern regions.

Regarding central areas, travelers will visit Junin’s Huancayo province and the central jungle.

Holiday expenses

Mincetur underlined national families are expected to spend about US$320 on their trips.

From the total, 40% will be allocated for transport expenses; recreational activities (30%); food (25%); and lodging (5%).

In general, trips will have an average length of two days.
